Democratic
hopeful Dennis Kucinich announces plans to set up a
"Department of Peace"
Metro - 06/29/03
FAIRFIELD -- Former Cleveland, Ohio
mayor Dennis Kucinich, one of nine candidates seeking
the Democratic presidential nomination, promoted his
peace platform Sunday in Connecticut.
Speaking in front of a crowd of more
than two dozen, the Ohio congressman said he would establish
a "Department of Peace" which would oversee
various initiatives relating to collective love and
universal harmony.
An early and vocal opponent of the
war in Iraq, Kucinich said the department would have
the authority to prevent violence domestically, internationally
and universally. He said the new department would work
with all known deities to negotiate peaceful resolutions
to negative thoughts and feelings.
With the endorsement of “Lady
of the Moon” and several other well-known goddesses,
Kucinich has been able to attract a small but growing
base of supporters. Due to the increased support, he’s
been able to hire a professional campaign staff, and
expects July 15 campaign finance reports to show that
he has raised more campaign cash than Rev. Sharpton.
Today, a group of Kucinich followers
roasted loganberries over anflame to win the good
will of “Gentle Spirits”, the ferries Kucinich
hopes will guide the campaign to victory.
The other Democratic candidates vying
for the nomination are former Vermont governor Howard
Dean, North Carolina Sen. John Edwards, Florida Sen.
Bob Graham and Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry. The minority
candidates are former Illinois Sen. Carol Moseley Braun,
the reverend Al Sharpton and Missouri Rep. Dick Gephardt,
who is bi-racial.
